A Story From the Jungle
Pablo Picasso famously said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain one once we grow up.”
Six weeks in Costa Rica became my answer to that question.
Somewhere over the Caribbean, cruising at altitude with my children beside me, we flew toward the unknown.
Call it Pura Vida or Vida Loca, but what awaited us was not simply a vacation.
It was a reckoning.
A beautiful, sweaty, ant-lined, howler-monkey-serenaded reckoning.
We ate empanadas from coolers. Pollo from roadside skewers. Fried eggs in communal kitchens while lines of industrious sugar ants marched beside us with far more organization than I possessed that first week.
Creature comforts dissolved.
The 95-degree heat had its say.
The internet lost its battle against the soundtrack of howler monkeys.
And yet...
My children bloomed.
