Travel Bucket List: Part 1

One of my most daunting — and time-consuming — tasks as a travel advisor these days is staying current with the constantly shifting protocols and procedures that Covid continues to bestow upon the travel world.

Whether it’s travel advisories, border closures and reopenings, flight restrictions, testing requirements, or ever-changing surges, I will have the answers when the time is right for you.

And whatever your personal comfort level or timeline for future travel may be, How Far Adventures is here to help.

But in the meantime, I want to ask you something:

What’s in your bucket?

Your wildest travel dream bucket.

No rules. No regulations. Just the pure wonder of the destinations you’ve longed to experience and finally check off your life list.

A few honorable mentions I already consider worthy and unforgettable:

  • Driving the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia

  • Hiking the lemon groves of Cinque Terre, Italy on wonderfully shaky legs

  • Diving the Blue Hole in Belize

  • Relishing a curated food-and-wine tour through Napa Valley

But these breathtaking, show-stopping destinations are still patiently chilling on ice for me...

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Iceland is quickly becoming a favorite destination for adventurous families.

Adventures by Disney offers an eight-night itinerary through this Nordic wonderland filled with waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers, and geothermal beauty.

One highlight is a stay at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina near the legendary Blue Lagoon — the world’s largest geothermal pool.

Maybe I’m deluding myself into believing all my worries would melt away there... but honestly, it seems worth testing the theory.

The water is renewed every 40 hours and maintained at a dreamy 100 degrees.

Go for the spiritual serenity floating above the steam, the skin-rejuvenating minerals, and the soul-resetting stillness.

And absolutely make time for the spa treatment.

Peace, my people. Peace.

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

You think America has a rich history filled with triumph and turmoil?

Angkor Wat stands among the world’s most important archaeological treasures.

This UNESCO-protected site contains the remains of multiple capitals of the Khmer Empire, including the magnificent Temple of Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple.

It is a deeply eye-opening place that still stands proudly for good reason.

I love Asia, and Vietnam and Cambodia remain high on my curiosity list.

The rural villages, vibrant markets, peaceful monasteries, and layered histories all call to me.

The AmaWaterways Riches of the Mekong river cruise ending in Ho Chi Minh City sits firmly on my family’s wish list — a slow, traditional, transformative journey revealing another culture through the rhythm of its rivers.

Ubud, Bali

It was Eat, Pray, Love that first placed Bali on my radar.

Then musician Michael Franti — and my own love of yoga — turned on the homing device.

Indonesia’s archipelago stretches across more than 17,000 islands, but Bali’s cultural heart is undoubtedly Ubud.

Nearby treasures include Yoga Barn, Tegenungan Waterfall, Campuhan Ridge Walk, Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave), iconic rice terraces, and artisan villages.

Perched above it all sits Amandari — meaning “peaceful spirits” — a true pioneer in luxury hospitality.

Designed to resemble a traditional Balinese village, the resort overlooks the lush Ayung Valley with breathtaking serenity.

The free-standing suites, with thatched roofs, tranquil terraces, and outdoor bathtubs, feel like pure solace after a long day of asanas and exploration.

Yoga and Balinese wisdom teach us this:

Do you know what makes a great warrior?

Patience.

Casablanca Valley & Patagonia, Chile

South America feels deeply idyllic to me because it remains my least explored continent.

Originally, I thought Machu Picchu would top this list — and it absolutely still belongs there.

But something about Chilean wineries and Patagonia’s wandering soul keeps calling me louder.

I imagine disappearing into the enormity of physical space and desolate silence while children run wild and free exactly as they were made to.

The very name Patagonia conjures towering peaks, electric-blue lakes, endless hikes, and miles upon miles of untouched landscape far removed from social-media noise and distraction.

The best Patagonia experiences blend both the Argentine and Chilean sides — ideally with a stay at the incomparable Singular Patagonia.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but if I had a dime for every time clients and I daydreamed about Bora Bora, I’d be sprinting to the coin counter.

This sandy paradise calls to me — and to so many others — for good reason.

It is genuinely one of the most beautiful places on earth.

But beyond the overwater bungalows lies a rich cultural history that makes the destination even more captivating.

The dramatic silhouette of Mount Otemanu rising from Bora Bora and the “sunken volcano” lagoon of Rangiroa create some of the most breathtaking scenery and marine life anywhere in the world.

Conrad Bora Bora Nui offers the kind of blissful luxury travelers dream about: turquoise waters, private coves, iconic overwater villas, and unobstructed sunset views every single evening.

With access to a private island, plus family-friendly amenities including a kids club and babysitting services, it becomes a tropical playground for couples and families alike.

If you can dream it, we can build it.
